My Pennsylvania Dutch/German ancestry says today should be celebrated by consuming fried and sugared potato dough. Mmmmm yummy!
My family doesn't celebrate Lent, but we've always participated in Fasnacht Day. My dad used to bring home a dozen from Maple Donuts every year, and it was a treat I looked forward to all year. Sure, we had donuts throughout the year, but fasnachts were just different enough to be a special treat.
Though finding fasnachts in Central PA was never difficult, finding them out here has been a bit of a challenge. A quick Google search says that they're sold in Giant stores, so I'm going to stop at one on my way home and hope that some will be there. Mmmmmmm.
A little Wikipedia article for those not familiar with this glorious day.
ETA: Fifty points to Giant! I knew you'd come through for me. And with a big display in the middle of the bakery section at that. *munches fasnacht*
