Wow, Must-See TV Thursday is definitely back with a vengence. Although this time it's split over two networks instead of soley residing on NBC.
Alli and I started off with "The Office." Admittedly, the only full episode I had ever seen was last season's finale, so I wasn't looking forward to the new season as much as Allison. The parts that I paid attention to were quite funny, especially the conference room meeting. Poor Steve Carell... he just doesn't know when to shut his mouth. Ha.
Next came the season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy." To be honest, while it was a good episode, it didn't really capture my full attention. It was nice to see some of the flashback images of the interns, residents and attendings mingle at the mixer... Cristina sucking up to Burke was spectacular. I did tape the episode, so I'll go back and watch it again, but on a whole... not as good as I had hoped.
Totally different reaction to the season premiere of "ER," however. Even though I knew what was going to happen (I've read the spoilers up to the fifth or sixth episode... no patience whatsoever), this episode had me from start to finish.
Of course the Luka/Abby storyline had the majority of my interest, and I'm surprised that my eyes didn't turn into a replica of Niagra Falls during a few scenes: Luka torn between staying by Abby's side as Coburn tries to stop her from bleeding out from a placental abruption, and staying by his newborn son's side, who had to have CPR administered; Luka on the verge of tears as he describes his son's poor condition to Kerry; Abby asking Luka if one baby is enough for them... she's had a hysterectomy; both of them watching the short video of Baby Joe on Luka's Blackberry because Abby won't get to get to the NICU for at least 24 hours; Luka finally breaking down in the bathroom and then throwing the trashcan at the mirror, shattering it.
Talk about tugging on the heartstrings. Maura and Goran are absolutely amazing together onscreen.
Anyway, I'll spare everyone a continuing review of the episode. Just know that it was AWESOME, and if you don't watch "ER" or have given up on it... WATCH THIS SEASON. Seriously. ;)
