From this past Saturday to this coming Saturday I will have been, and will be, nothing but a crazy person running around with a million things on her to-do list and praying to God to just this once tack on an extra hour to each day.
Over the weekend, my brother and his girlfriend used my apartment as a home base for their beach trip. They threw me off a bit on Friday by arriving three hours early, but I was able to make it home before they did. I took them to see the animals at the puppy store (there's a little black-and-white kitten that looks EXACTLY like my Oreo) and after we arrived back at the apartment, I cooked up a yummy dinner of salad, seasoned chicken and potato gnocchi in vodka sauce. Mmmmmm. The three of us (including Alli) then piled into my car for a Blockbuster run - scored Date Movie (reeeaaallly bad), Failure to Launch (reeeaaallly good) and Inside Man (fell asleep before it ended, but what I saw was good).
Saturday the kids were at the beach so I was free to run a few errands; picked up some bridal shower supplies at Party City, did a little grocery shopping, went to the library. And holy crap, did I ever sound like a soccer mom just then. Ugh. The kids got back pretty late, so I re-heated some pizza for them and we vegged on the couch 'til bedtime.
After they left on Sunday I had full intentions of cleaning the place, but honestly could not find neither the energy nor the motivation. I managed to vacuum and straighten things up but not much more than that. Instead I parked my butt on the chair and began to read Cesar Millan's dog psychology book "Cesar's Way." This guy has become my dog training idol. So much of what he says, both in his book and on his show ("The Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel) makes complete sense... that dogs are not little furry humans that walk on four legs, that they are pack animals and only understand the leader and follower roles and therefore need rules, boundaries and limitations in order to be happy. I think every dog owner should watch the show and read the book... amazing stuff. I'll try to post some exerpts later in case there are any Mindsayers out there who have doggies with issues.
Anyway, this week is going to be insane as I really start to prepare for the bridal shower on Saturday. Tonight it'll be getting a few materials for the shower favors, picking up a few more things at Party City and putting together a grocery list of all the ingredients I'll need for the menu.
