My boss told me this morning that our sixth and final attempt to find a speaker for the Millennium Lecture in October has been turned down. Which means the event will most likely be canceled, unless something short of a miracle occurs.
And I have to say I'm very relieved that the Lecture won't happen. It would have been great PR for the Speaker of the House, the PHC and all other organizations involved, as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Harrisburg Capitol building's dedication. But I had looked at the folder containing information about 2004's Millennium Lecture (it had been canceled in 2005 as well) and my mind spun in circles at all of the planning involved. Where most meeting planners would have jumped at the opportunity, I felt like running for the hills. Give me a red pen and a multi-page document and I'm happy as a fat kid in a donut shop. But give me a folder and say I have to bring in a big-name celeb-type to speak at a government event attended by upwards of 500+ people, and I may just faint on the spot. Meeting planning ain't my thang.
But, back on subject, the Millennium Lecture isn't happening and the Jelli Brain is doing the Snoopy dance.
I feel:
relieved
